Who am I? I am Dr. Katelyn Jetelina, an epidemiologist in Texas that’s been thrown into the COVID19 “all hands on deck” pandemic. As for my credentials… I have a Masters in Public Health, PhD in Epidemiology and Biostatistics. I am an Assistant Professor at a School of Public Health and have a secondary appointment at a medical school.
How did this start? Back in March I was asked by our Dean to share daily data-driven COVID19 updates to bring clarity to our staff. It was (and still is) a very confusing time. THEN I started sharing these updates with my students (I was teaching an Applied Data Analysis class at the time; seemed appropriate), which turned into social media updates. This blog reflects exactly what I post on social media (I mainly did this so I could share with my 90 year old grandpa).
What’s this site’s purpose? Throughout this journey, if I’ve learned one thing, it’s the lack of scientific “translation” to the community. Without the translation, many are left to biased reports, inaccurate descriptions of the current state of affairs, and confusion and anxiety. The purpose of this page is to provide a translation for my community. All the posts within this blog are data-driven and backed by the most recent scientific evidence.
How do I get updates? Follow me on Facebook (Your Local Epidemiologist), Instagram (your_local_epidemiologist), or subscribe to emails below.
Conflicts of Interest? None
Funding? Backed by the equity of my own blood, sweat, and tears. This is my service to the community.
Other sites? I am part of a larger team that developed a dashboard for our fellow Texans. Check it out! www.texaspandemic.org
